Herold White and the Country Masters begin Tuesday night shows at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park

The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park is proud to announce that veteran performer Herold White will be added to the regular lineup of performers at the SOSMP each week. Beginning Oct. 7 Herold White will host a musical show each Tuesday night from 7 - 10 p.m. in the Music Hall along with his band, the Country Masters.

This new addition to the entertainment lineup at the SOSMP and SOS Café and Restaurant means more music, more opportunities for guests to visit the SOSMP and the SOS Café and Restaurant. And, even more opportunities to leave the cooking to us while you relax, enjoy and get out there on the dance floor with your sweetie!

Herold White is a lifetime musician and entertainer born into a musical family in Hazel, Kentucky. He grew up in Live Oak where he later returned to settle down after traveling all over the US entertaining and recording music in such places as Tampa, Nashville and Las Vegas.

Herold says he and his band will play country, Southern country and a variety of other music every Tuesday. “Steve (Briscoe) asked me if I would commit to this, and I said yes,” Herold said this week. “It’s just something I like to do.” Herold said he plans to have special guests sing with his group about once a month. “We have a lot of great local talent we’ll invite in,” he said.

As the new director of the SOSMP Music Hall, Steve Briscoe said Herold White is the perfect person to fill the new Tuesday night slot and round out the week’s great entertainment list.

Herold White made his first public appearance at the age of 15 with the legendary bluegrass group of Jim and Jesse. He says if there ever was any doubt about what he wanted to do with his life, it disappeared that evening when he heard the roar of the crowd after his performance. Jim and Jesse were part of a huge radio program that originated from a tobacco sales barn in Live Oak, Florida back in the 50s that went out to more than 26 states. They went on to become one of the biggest bluegrass groups in the nation.

Herold taught himself to play guitar on a guitar loaned to him by Jim and Jesse. He played drums for four years for Kayton Roberts who later went on to be Hank Snow’s steel guitar player.

In 1964 he traveled to Atlanta to record his first record with two songs he wrote and sang, “Lonely Street” and “I Have Told Everyone About You.”
This was just the beginning of Herold’s story of traveling all over, working day jobs to provide the funds to allow him to play gigs at night and weekends. He’s worked as a DJ, owned and operated a recording studio many years ago and today again has his own studio, Maverick Productions, this time in Suwannee County where he records for himself and others.

He’s been represented by the famous Buddy Lee Attractions of Nashville who booked Herold and the Country Masters all over the country in the 60s. In 1968, he and the band became one of the regular groups at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas and took up residence in Nevada for the next four years.

He would later record at the Buck Owens Studio in Bakersfield, California with the Buckaroos.

After a stint of managing and owning night clubs in Iowa and Illinois, Herold eventually made his way back home to Live Oak where he’s now permanently settled in and ….guessed it…he’s playing all over North Florida, recording music and enjoying warm memories of 50 years of music. Several years ago Herold started the musical Millennium Nights events at Millennium Park in downtown Live Oak on alternate Friday nights, showcasing area talent and drawing many folks downtown to enjoy the variety of music.

The SOSMP new weekly lineup will begin Oct. 6 with Ted “TeddyMac Elvis” McMullen and karaoke on Monday night, Herold White Tuesday night, karaoke again Thursday night and new and exciting entertainment acts every Friday and Saturday night in the Music Hall. You can look forward to a new adventure each week on these special nights of music at the SOSMP Music Hall.

The Music Hall has a rich history of entertainment with such great artists as Ronnie McDowell, Jim Lauderdale, Cherryholmes, Rhonda Vincent, The Lewis Family, The Duhks, Mike Snider, Eddy Raven, Larry Mangum, The Mercy Mountain Boys, Mike Miller Band, Valarie Smith and Liberty Pike, Wilson Family Band and many, many other well known artists who have performed there over the years.

Make plans now to schedule in each Tuesday night on your calendar to take a night off from cooking, relax and go out to the SOSMP where you can have a fabulous dinner, meet your friends for the evening and enjoy Herold White and the Country Masters and their special guests on stage. Doors open at 6 p.m., shows are from 7 - 10 p.m. Admission is free every night except Saturday. Dinner and beverages are always available at regular prices.
